England`s Premier League teams spent ? 200m less on transfers this summer compared with the same period last year, a study by the Deloitte financial company shows. The main reason for the reduced cost of the teams is the shortening of the transfer window, which this year closed on August 9, instead of the traditional 31 August.


According to financial analysts, the 20 teams in the Premier League have given 1, 2 billion pounds for new players, while in 2017 this amount was ? 1. 4 billion. Last year`s Liverpool Champions League finalist spent the most money on a new addition - a total of 165 million pounds. Second place is Chelsea with 120 million, Fulham novice gave 105 million for new players, and Leicester spent exactly 100 million.


The net cost of transfers was ? 865 million, well above ? 665 million a year ago. However, this amount can be changed by the end of the month as it closes the window to the rest of Europe and the English teams are free to divide with players even though they are no longer entitled to attract them. The club, spent at least for new players this summer, is Tottenham. Spurs became the first team since the introduction of the summer transfer window in 2003, which did not give a pound for new additions.
